Becoming a Medical Assistant
You must be trained as a medical assistant to work in the field. The Medical Assistant program at Compu-Med Vocational Careers (CMVC) provides technical training and practical experience. It is a 45-week program that lasts two semesters.
Medical Assistant students learn about human anatomy and physiology. They learn medical terminology and how to take vital signs. Students take courses in microbiology, Phlebotomy (drawing blood), and Radiology. Students learn everything they need to know to become certified.
At the end of the program, students do an externship. This gives students real-world experience in the medical field. Students may apply what they learned in the classroom. Practical experiences are required before entering the field.
Medical Assistants will be trained to get entry-level employment. The BLS says that Medical Assistants will be in high demand through 2028. When they reevaluate their estimates, they will post the potential job growth again. It is currently at 23% growth rate. However, the demand for Medical Assistants could potentially be even higher after 2028.
