How To Become a Dental Assistant in Florida
You can train to become a dental assistant in Florida at Compu-Med Vocational Careers. Our program takes an average of two semesters to complete. The knowledge and skills that you gain from the dental assistant program prepare you for a career as a Florida dental assistant.
Dental Assistant Requirements
On-the-job dental assistants do not need any formal training. They can get started right away under the supervision of a dentist. While they are limited to basic duties, entry-level dental assistants gain their knowledge and skills on the job.
Dental assistants with expanded duties must have training and get certified. With certification, they can do things like dental radiology (x-rays) and cementing temporary crowns under direct supervision.
The training program for expanded duties and radiology must cover the skills required by the Florida Board of Dentistry. Once you graduate, you can register for certification in expanded functions and dental radiology.
